Roots for Resilience: Restoring Nature, Strengthening Communities

On 30 September 2026, Green Roof Philippines team conducted a Tree Planting Activity in Nazareno, Barangay Culis, Hermosa, Bataan, marking the second consecutive year of Green Roof’s tree-planting efforts to support greening and environmental restoration in local communities.

The activity took place in Bataan province, where Green Roof’s 22.79 MWp Hermosa Solar Plant operates, reinforcing the company’s commitment to creating positive environmental and social impact in the communities surrounding its projects

Collaboration for Environmental Conservation

Participating organizations and stakeholders include:

  • Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) of Government Center, Brgy. Ala-uli, Pilar, Bataan, represented by the new DENR-CENRO Pilar Officer, Ms. Lezzete A. Bernales, RPF, MPA
  • Balsik Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (BARBA) - a farmers' association in Barangay Balsik, Hermosa, Bataan, our partner of the Solar Pump Irrigation System (SPIS) Community Development Program (CDP)
  • Renesource Inc. - EPC Contractor representatives
  • TABALAN Multi-Sectoral Forest Protection Committee (MFPC) Peoples Organization - a local community organization in Hermosa, Bataan, involved in community-based forest protection and resource management, including biodiversity conservation and alternative livelihood activities

The collaboration reflects the importance of bringing together government, local communities, project partners, and stakeholders to create meaningful and lasting environmental outcomes.

A total of 55 participants came together to plant 1,000 seedlings across a 2-hectare planting site, including 500 Guyabano/Soursop (Scientific name: Annona muricata) and 500 Kasoy/Cashew (Scientific name: Anacardium occidentale L.).

Beyond increasing the number of trees, the activity also contributes to broader environmental restoration efforts in the area. The planting site is located in the upstream catchment area of our project site in Barangay Balsik, Hermosa, Bataan. This initiative helps enhance water retention, manage surface runoff, and contribute to mitigate flooding in downstream, low-lying areas.

By combining renewable energy development with nature-based initiatives, Green Roof aims to support the long-term resilience of both local ecosystems and communities.

Looking Towards Long-Term Forest Conservation

Green Roof Philippines is currently in discussions with DENR-CENRO regarding a potential “Adopt-a-Forest” initiative to establish a long-term program for tree planting and annual maintenance. This initiative could also contribute to Green Roof’s GHG emissions reduction efforts and broader environmental objectives, including forest conservation, erosion management, and surface runoff control, in the upper catchment areas of Hermosa, Bataan.

Every seedling planted today is a step towards healthier ecosystems, more resilient communities, and a more sustainable future.
